PREVENT Statement


WS Training Ltd. is committed to promoting and reinforcing shared values: “Democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs".

Learning providers are expected to encourage learners to respect other people; with particular regard to the protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act 2010 we take this responsibility seriously.

We also have a responsibility to safeguard staff, learners and the general public against the threat of extremism and radicalisation.

British Values at WS Training

At WS Training we aim to promote British values in every aspect of our provision. We understand how important our role is in ensuring every individual is kept safe and not subject to intimidation or radicalisation by anyone illegally wishing to influence them.

The government has defined our British values as being :-

  • Democracy

  • Individual liberty & freedom of speech

  • The rule of law & equality of opportunity

  • Mutual respect

  • Tolerance of those with different faiths & beliefs and the right of all men & women to live free from persecution of any kind

Below are some examples of how we embed these values into our ethos & practice

Democracy:-

All of our learners are invited to participate in learner surveys to enable them to give their feedback & point of view

  • We have suggestion boxes at every centre, classroom based learners at central have learner forums.

  • Learners are encouraged to give feedback throughout their programmes’s at assessments, reviews & exit interviews.

Individual’s liberty & freedom of speech

  • All learners are empowered to make decisions about their learning plans and life & career goals & ambitions

  • We encourage freedom to research with safe boundaries on the internet

  • Learners are encouraged to voice their views throughout their qualifications through surveys & feedback forms

  • All learners get impartial information & advice before, during and after their programme to help them make informed decisions

  • Britishness is embedded into lessons and subjects support this so that learners can make informed choices i.e.: healthy eating

Rule of Law and Equality of Opportunity

This is promoted via WS Training Safeguarding, Prevent Equality & Diversity, Learner Behaviour and Health & Safety policies.

These are discussed at induction to ensure all learners are aware. Learners are also given a handbook for reference, a mentor in the workplace and there are photos of all safeguarding, H&S and equality and diversity reps in reception at every centre. Learners are made clear what is expected of them and they are also made aware of how to complain/appeal if they feel they are being treated unfairly.

Mutual Respect

WS Training ensures this is promoted via our Equality & Diversity Policy & Learner Behaviour Policy. Learners are made aware of expectations at induction, in the learner handbook and via classroom boundaries.

Equality & Diversity is embedded in lessons and discussed at reviews. We also ask specific questions throughout the programmes to check understanding.

Tolerance of those with different faiths and Beliefs and the right of all to live without persecution of any kind

WS Training does not tolerate bullying of any kind. This is promoted with our Learners Anti-bullying Policy & Equality & Diversity Policy.

All staff and learners have access to Prevent training so we can work together to ensure nobody is unduly pressured into doing something against their will or better judgement.

Different faiths, cultures & beliefs are celebrated and discussed within lessons and throughout programmes. 

 

WS Training have established and will maintain an ethos where our learners feel secure, are encouraged to talk and are listened to.  Young people at WS Training will be able to talk freely to any member of staff or regular visitor to WS Training if they are worried or concerned about something. I am an adult and the person who is bullying me is in my workplace.

What should I do if I am being abused or I know of someone who is being abused?

There are several forms of abuse i.e. physical, sexual, emotional and psychological.

ANY type of abuse is NEVER ok! It is always better to speak out to protect yourself or others.

What should I do if someone is trying to radicalise me or my friends?

If you have any concerns whilst enrolled at WS training you can discuss these with the Safeguarding Lead. The contact details are on our website www.wstraining.co.uk

In Prevent priority areas, the local authority will have a Prevent lead that can also provide support.

You can also contact your local police force or dial 101 (the non-emergency number).

They can talk to you in confidence about your concerns and help you gain access to support and advice.
