Course Title: ILM Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management

Aim & Objectives:

The Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management aims to give practising and potential managers the foundation for their formal development. The programme content covers the Knowledge Requirements of the Level 3 S/NVQ in Management, and the assessments may provide evidence towards a portfolio for this qualification.

The programme has two primary objectives:

• To assist participants in gaining the basic knowledge required by a Manager • To develop basic Management skills

Entry Requirements:

Participants will normally be either practising or aspiring managers. Whilst there are no formal educational requirements, learners should have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.

Progression:

Successful participants may benefit from career enhancement, and/or may progress to:

• Level 3 or 4 S/NVQ in Management depending upon their workplace responsibilities • Level 4 Introductory Diploma in Management

Course Content:

A minimum of 13 credits are required to complete this qualification and must be completed within 3 years.

Solving problems and making decisions (Unit covered in the Award package A)

  • Know how to describe a problem, its nature, scope and impact
  • Know how to gather and interpret information to solve a problem
  • Know how to evaluate options to make a decision
  • Know how to plan, monitor and review the implementation and communication of decisions

Understand how to establish an effective team (Unit covered in the Award package A)

  • Understand how to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Understand how to build a team

Understand how to motivate to improve performance (Unit covered in the Award package A)

  • Understand the factors that influence motivation levels in the workplace
  • Understand how a theory of motivation can be used to improve performance levels

Understanding conflict management in the workplace (Unit covered in the Award package A)

  • Understand conflict management in the workplace

Understanding innovation and change in an organisation (Unit covered in the Award package B)

  • Explain innovation and change in an organisation
  • Understand how to plan, monitor and review the implementation and communication of innovation and change in an organisation
  • Understand the effects of innovation and change on people and teams in an organisation

Giving briefings and making presentations (Unit covered in the Award package B)

  • Be able to plan a briefing or presentation
  • Be able to conduct a briefing or presentation
  • Be able to evaluate a briefing or presentation

Developing yourself and others (Unit covered in the Award package B)

  • Know how to identify development needs
  • Know how to develop self and others to achieve organisational objectives

Understanding discipline in the workplace (Unit covered in the Award package B)

  • Understand the legal aspects and organisational policy relating to discipline in the workplace
  • Understand how to monitor discipline in the workplace

Understand organising and delegating in the workplace (Unit covered in the Award package B)

• Understand how to organise people to achieve objectives • Understand how to delegate to achieve workplace objectives
