Aim & Objectives: The Level 3 Award in First Line Management aims to give practising or potential managers the foundation for their formal development in this role. The programme has two primary objectives:

  • To assist participants in gaining the basic knowledge required by a manager
  • To develop basic management skills

Entry Requirements: Participants will normally be either practising or aspiring first line managers. Whilst there are no formal educational requirements, learners should have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.

Progression: Successful candidates may benefit from career enhancement, and/or may progress to any of the further qualifications listed, according to their circumstances:

  • Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management
  • Level 3 S/NVQ in Management

Course Contents: A minimum of 4 credits are required to complete this qualification and must be completed within 3 years.

The units that will be covered during this course are as follows:

Solving problems and making decisions

  1. Know how to describe a problem, its nature, scope and impact
  2. Know how to gather and interpret information to solve a problem
  3. Know how to evaluate options to make a decision
  4. Know how to plan, monitor and review the implementation and communication of decisions

Understand how to establish an effective team

  1. Understand how to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  2. Understand how to build a team

Understand how to motivate to improve performance

  1. Understand the factors that influence motivation levels in the workplace
  2. Understand how a theory of motivation can be used to improve performance levels

Assessment: Each candidate must complete to a national standard:

  • Work based assignment and Unit assessments to cover the units
