Aim & Objectives:
The ILM Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading aims to give practising or potential team and cell leaders the foundation for their formal development in this role. The qualification does this by developing basic team leading skills and assisting participants in gaining the basic knowledge required at this level.
Entry Requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements, but participants will:
- Normally be either practising or aspiring team leaders with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands, and;
- Have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme – which is likely to be Level 1 Key Skills Literacy and Numeracy or their equivalent.
Progression:
Successful candidates may benefit from career enhancement, and/or may progress to any of the further qualifications listed, according to their circumstances:
- Level 3 Award or Certificate in First Line Management
- Level 2 NVQ in Team Leading
- Level 3 NVQ in Management
- Another qualification at a suitable level within or outside the National Qualifications Framework or the Qualifications and Credit Framework
Course Contents:
A minimum of 13 credits are required to complete this qualification and must be completed within 3 years.

- Understand the role and responsibility of the team leader
- Be able to seek feedback on their workplace performance to identify strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement
Improving the performance of the work team (Unit covered in the Award)
- Understand the organisation’s requirements in relation to team performance
- Understand how to address underperformance
- Understand the role of motivation in improving performance
Developing the work team (Unit covered in the Award)
- Understand the nature of teams
- Understand the advantages and disadvantages of team working
Understanding change in the workplace (Unit covered in the Award)
- Understand change in the workplace
- Know how to support the implement of change in the workplace
Planning and monitoring work
- Understand how to work within the organisational guidelines to achieve team goals
- Understand how to plan and allocate work
- Understand how to monitor a team’s performance against the plan
Induction and coaching in the workplace
- Understand how to integrate new members in the team
- Know how to coach individuals in the team
Using information to solve problems
- Be able to use information to solve problems
- Apply a recognised technique to solve the problem
Briefing the work team
- Understanding how to plan for a team briefing
- Be able to deliver a team briefing
- Be able to report back on a team briefing
Leading your work team
- Understand the difference between leadership and management
- Understand a range of leadership styles, their benefits and potential impact on individuals and performance

Each candidate must complete to a national standard:
Reflective Reviews to cover each of the Units and Presentation on the final day of the course
