New Roads and Street works

Course Overview:

SQA certified - Operatives and Supervisors.

Intended for operatives and/or supervisors involved in road and streetworks. To provide a qualification for those already working on the highway carrying out excavation and reinstatement.

The course will cover the below listed units of the New Roads & Streetworks Act. You will be provided with an understanding of the HAUC Specification to further underpin your current knowledge.

You will need to demonstrate the use of tools and and equipment using your current experience as the practical elements of the course will not be taught. Practical instruction is not provided.

Written assessments will be conducted electronically under exam conditions.

Course Content:

Operatives Units LA. Location and avoidance of underground apparatus O1. Signing, lighting and guarding O2. Excavation in the highway O3. Re-instatement and compaction of backfill materials O4. Re-instatement of sub base and road base in non-bituminous materials O5. Re-instatement of cold lay bituminous materials O8. Re-instatement of modular surfaces

Operatives Additional Units– not covered within the standard units of this course O6. Re-instatement of hot lay bituminous materials O7. Re-instatement of concrete slabs

Supervisors Additional Units LA. Location and avoidance of underground apparatus S1. Monitoring signing, lighting and guarding S2. Monitoring excavation in the highway S3. Monitoring reinstatement and compaction of backfill materials S4. Monitoring reinstatement of sub base and road base in non-bituminous materials S5. Monitoring reinstatement in bituminous materials S7. Monitoring reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways

Supervisors Additional Units not covered within the standard units of this course S6. Monitoring reinstatement of concrete slabs

For a delegate requiring individual units only a certificate of achievement can be issued towards completion of the full qualification, fees can be quoted for this on request.

For any delegate wishing to undertake the Additional Units, please note that these are no longer covered on the course but can still be taken at an additional cost. Further details on this are available on request.

SWQR cards are valid for 5 years, and you can apply to renew your card anytime during that 5 years and up to 5 years after the card validity date.
