This course is intended for those who work in the construction / building and assocated trades, and those who work in facilities management and maintenance.

Course Aims and Objectives: The aim of this course is to develop delegates awareness of asbestos and its associated hazards. By the end of the training session delegates should be able to:

  • Identify the different types of asbestos
  • Identify the health risks associated with asbestos
  • Identify where asbestos is commonly found
  • Identify practical controls for asbestos safety
  • Outline the requirements of the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2006

Course Content:

  • Employees health and safety responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Employees responsibilities under The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006
  • Examples of fatalities due to respiratory effects from exposure to asbestos
  • Risk assessing – what the employee should do
  • Asbestos materials in non-domestic premises
  • Types of asbestos and associated hazards
  • What to do if you uncover or damage asbestos
  • How to protect yourself against asbestos
  • Disposal of asbestos containing materials
